Non-Beef Burger Recipes
For a primer on non-beef burgers, Epicurious tested the top brands and offers a rundown on how they taste and their pick for the best-of. Veggie burgers are not new, we’ve tasted the black bean variety and went back to beef. But recently manufacturers have developed plant-based burgers that “bleed.” These non-meat burgers have been making the rounds at restaurants (like the Impossible Whopper at Burger King), and now they’re in your local grocery store, too. Epicurious collected recipes for veggie burgers they like so you can skip the learning curve and find out which meatless burgers made their love list.
If you prefer to stick with meaty burgers, just not beef, this Turkey Burger Recipe from Delish might scratch the burger itch. While it’s pretty basic – combining ground turkey, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and salt/pepper, Chef Makenze encourages swaps for Worcestershire – like soy sauce or even liquid smoke. Plus, you can add chopped shallots or additional seasonings like paprika, chili powder or ground mustard.
The Food Network’s Southwest Turkey Burger recipe will take your tastebuds to Texas and back, with turkey bacon, red onion, garlic, jalapenos, cumin, cayenne hot sauce and off-the-shelf steak seasoning. It’s a flavorful burger – not too spicy – and you can watch the pros make it in the handy DIY video.
And See Drummond’s Buffalo Chicken Burgers are the stuff of legend. With 25 five-star reviews, the Pioneer Woman makes her own blue cheese dressing, and adds Frank’s hot sauce to the ground chicken. Don’t forget the celery, or the toasted onion rolls!
