Give it a Spritz
The Ginger Spritz takes a little measuring and blending and Bon Appétit has the recipe right here. Combining a thin slice of peeled ginger with two ounces of Lillet (an aperitif wine-blend of Bordeaux and citrus liqueur) and 3 ounces of cava (a sparkling Spanish wine) plus a splash of ginger beer, makes for a light refreshing drink perfect for brunches or lighter-drink aficionados.
No recipe is needed for a fabulous Fall Spritz. Here’s all that you – or your guests, if you’re busy prepping in the kitchen – have to do. Mix one part amaro (an herbal Italian liqueur) to four parts hard cider. Just set out the glasses, the liquid beverages, plenty of ice and turn everybody loose to make their own.
Sparkling wine is a good beverage to have on hand to make all sorts of cocktails, like this Apple Spritz from Absolut. The recipe uses one part each of the sparkling wine, soda water and Absolut Juice Apple, plus slices of apple as garnish.
Egg Nog and Gingerbread
The Food Network has a Holiday Central hub where you’ll find recipes for lots of holiday goodies including drinks like a cup of Gingerbread Hot Chocolate, or try one of 47 more hot and steamy, cold and festive drinks for the holidays.
The double dose of coffee (in both espresso and liqueur form) in this chilled java drink. The sweet black currants bring out the chocolaty best in a stout beer – which altogether is probably a better mid-day drink (than after dinner) unless the espresso’s a decaf!
Get your eggnog on with a martini made with the creamy stuff plus brandy, amaretto and nutmeg, or sip a hot buttered rum or apple cider and cinnamon spiked with brandy! The Food Network has a slew of fall favorites, perfect for Thanksgiving dinner and dessert!
For Boozers, Beer Fans and Teetotalers
Whether you’re sipping to celebrate Thanksgiving, or one of the NFL games slated for next Thursday (Lions vs. the Chicago Bears, Cowboys vs. the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints vs. the Buffalo Bills), a special holiday cocktail can be the best part of the meal!
Town and Country Magazine offers recipes for a bevy of boozy cocktails from festive martinis and juice drinks with bourbon, rum, vodka and Campari, to mules, hot chocolates and mint toddies. Skip the boring beer this year and enjoy instead a Santa Clausmopolitan, a jolly jingle juice or a Christmamosa from Delish.
Alcohol-Free Drinks and Treats
Town and Country also has an entire collection of mocktails, non-alcoholic drinks for the teetotalers and wee ones, and Martha Stewart offers her 10 best alcohol-free drinks for the holidays including Cranberry Sparkler, Apple-Pie Cider and Peppermint Hot Chocolate.
And if you haven’t been keeping up with the latest coffee drinks at Starbucks®, let us clue you into the holiday drink for this year: The Iced Sugar Cookie Almond Milk Latte. Just released a week or so ago, the non-dairy iced beverage was inspired by spritz cookies and is made with sugar cookie flavored syrup, Starbucks® Blonde Espresso, almond milk, and topped with red and green cookie sprinkles. It is just as delicious hot, with steamed almond milk and a cap of foam with sprinkles.
