FRENCH CINEMA: FULL TIME
Julie (Laure Calamy) can’t catch a break. Without the train, Julie can’t get to her job as the head maid at a five-star hotel–or to the interview for a better job she has lined up. Out of desperation, Julie turns to neighbors and her own gutsy resourcefulness to commute into the city for work, barely making it back in time to pick up her kids before dinner. Worse yet: it’s only Monday.
Julie is at her breaking point and soon finds herself bending the rules to stay afloat in a ruthless society as her responsibilities pile up. ROGUE CO. DANCE COMPANY
Rogue Co. Dance Company presents its newest evening-length work, un/becoming. This body of work aims to evoke thought about the process in which we become our true selves. The transformations and evolution we undergo within a lifetime are often viewed as a sum of the experiences that build who we are. What if, instead, we approached this process, often uncomfortable and unflattering, as a shedding of unnecessary and inauthentic layers to reveal who we truly are?

Under the Artistic Direction of Meghan Lawitz, Rogue Co. is a contemporary dance company based out of Denver. Rogue Co. “is here to inspire and influence the world of dance through powerful movement and rich storytelling.”

The duo also draw primary inspiration from the spaghetti western soundtracks of Ennio Morricone and Stelvio Cipriani, vintage psychedelia, and classic Latin and South American music from the 1950s through the ’70s. 8 Anos, their debut album, appeared in 2017, evoking symbolic soundscapes haunted by the ghosts of outlaws, vaqueros, pilgrims, rootless wanderers, and devastated lovers.

THE COLOR PURPLE
A Pulitzer Prize. A National Book Award. Eleven Academy Award nominations. Four Golden Globe Nominations. And…Three Tony Awards. Few stories have had the cultural significance and lasting power of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple.

Beloved by audiences worldwide, The Color Purple traces one woman’s fraught journey towards freedom and self-love. It begins with 14-year-old Celie Harris, pregnant with her second child and the victim of unspeakable cruelty at the hands of her male family members. As she comes of age, her babies are taken from her, she is married off to an abusive husband, and her sister runs away, leaving Celie gut-wrenchingly alone, spirit broken.

Step by tiny step — and with the help of two courageous Black women — our hero rises up, gains her independence, and rebuilds her life from scratch. The musical adaptation of The Color Purple features awe-inspiring soul, gospel, jazz, and blues vocals underpinned by raw dialogue and a masterful plot. It is a triumphant, uplifting piece of art that reaffirms some fundamental truths. This weekend’s preview performances will be slightly discounted!

THE FOREIGNER
The Foreigner is a fun, two-act comedy by American playwright Larry Shue. The story takes place in a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County, Georgia where two Englishmen, Froggy and Charlie, arrive as guests. The shy Charlie agreed to accompany Froggy on the trip after his sick wife begged him to go. When people at the lodge try to talk to Charlie, however, he remains silent: he is terribly shy, depressed about his wife’s illness, and cannot find the words to reply. Froggy claims that Charlie cannot talk because he is a “foreigner” from an exotic country and does not understand English. Taking the explanation that he’s a non-English speaker as fact, the lodge’s guests quickly begin revealing their secrets, and Charlie soon discovers scandals amongst some of the residents of the lodge.

COVENHOVEN LIVE
Covenhoven is nationally recognized indie artist Joel Van Horne, a multi-instrumental singer-songwriter whose rich harmonies, reedy baritone and commanding falsetto have found a home with critics and fans since 2013. Through four full-length albums and 2 EPs Covenhoven has forged a signature style; layered acoustic arrangements that roll with momentum into orchestral peaks, accompanied by lyrics that contrast hard-won wisdom with the inherent hope of the natural world—from Big Sur to his native Colorado.

Regularly touring the United States, Covenhoven has shared the stage with Grammy winners and nominees S.Carey (Bon Iver), Jose Gonzalez, Gregory Alan Isakov, and John Paul White (Civil Wars). Covenhoven has also performed with genre bending artists Leif Vollebekk, Lord Huron, Joshua James, Blind Pilot, Esme Patterson, John Craigie, Daniel Rodriguez (Elephant Revival), Shook Twins, Reed Foehl, Rainbow Girls, Joan Shelley and a host of others.

JOHN MAYER SOLO TOUR
American singer-songwriter and guitarist John Clayton Mayer grew up in  Fairfield County, CT, spent two years at Berklee College of Music in Boston, then quit school and moved to Atlanta in 1997 with Clay Cook. Together, they formed a short-lived two-man band named Lo-Fi Masters. Today, the popular singer-songwriter (and sometimes actor) is on tour exploring old favorites and new creations with an uber expensive Martin custom double-neck guitar.

Adult pop-rock is his bread and butter, and in his own words, “I don’t make music for the club. I make music for the omelette on the Sunday after the club” — a time when we’re all the most honest with ourselves. The essence of John Mayer’s music is honest, nostalgic and raw. It is metaphorical yet direct. John Mayer makes music that describes what you’re going through, even if you don’t realize you’re going through something. He finds the metaphors and analogies that help life make sense, even when it doesn’t.

You’ll likely hear some of his top 10 hits including Stop This Train, Half of My Heart, his Grammy-winning single Daughters and Tom Petty’s 1989 classic Free Fallin’. The soft guitar rocker with a raspy-smooth voice can enchant just about anyone.
