Have a Spooky, Scary, Fun and Fabulous Weekend!

Lots of people seem to be in a fall festival and/or Halloween mood this weekend and likely for the next 11 days! You can tour haunted houses, make zombie jewelry, navigate a corn maze, pick a pumpkin, pet farm animals, enjoy the Diá de Los Muertos celebration or shop for a costume and run the Eerie Erie race!

PLAY WITH CLAY NIGHT
Join your fellow sculptors for a casual gathering to play with clay and meet other Firehouse artists and ceramics members. The event is open to folks of all levels, and instructive demonstrations will be explained for beginners, or just stop in and do your own thing! The class cost covers your clay and bisque-firing your pieces. You can then pick up your fired work to paint at home or bring to the next Play with Clay night (every third Thursday) to glaze the work. The class includes hand-building projects only.

ART & SIP: ZOMBIE JEWELRY!
Grab a drink and get creative with these socially artsy classes for adults. Fashion unique zombie-inspired jewelry to celebrate Halloween by transforming small toys into couture adornments. This class will guide beginners as well as bring new skills to experienced artists and crafters. You’ll be by working with miniature models of human organs and doll parts to make spooky jewelry. GREAT AMERICAN GHOST TRIP
In 2021, local author and paranormal investigator Richard Estep traveled 4,000 miles in 10 nights, staying only at haunted locations— and wrote a book along the way. He called it “The Great American Ghost Trip.”  You might have seen Estep on TV’s Haunted Case Files (Paranormal Investigators in the UK) Haunted Hospitals, and Paranormal 911. His love of all things ghostly began at a very young age, fed by staying in his grandparents’ haunted house in England and by a constant stream of binge reading at my local library. Join Estep as he talks about his book and the adventures he had. Books will be available for sale after the program.

FROM THE UK: KERALA DUST
Kerala Dust was formed in London in 2016. Growing up on the sounds of CAN, The Velvet Underground and Tom Waits while spending blurry mornings in nightclubs, the band combines those disparate influences of psychedelic rock, blues and techno into one. 

Their live performances are a constant conversation around the sounds from the studio. Pieces are re-interpreted, looped, dismantled, and put back together again. Since first touring in 2017, Kerala Dust have played over 150 international shows and at a long list of festivals and nightclubs.

TIPI TO TINY HOUSE: HANDS-ON HOMEBUILDING
The Museum’s newest hands-on exhibit is here! Throughout Colorado’s past and present, building a home has been a changing conversation between humans and their environment—and has led to shelters of many shapes, sizes, and materials. In this family-friendly and interactive exhibit, visitors explore, experience, and even build different types of homes in our gallery:

• Tiny house
• Log cabin
• Shepherd’s wagon
• Tipi
• And even a pillow fort!

Explore the past, present, and future methods in homebuilding across cultures. Learn about the people who lived in different types of homes throughout history in our state. How have people used their available resources in innovative ways? How have we built shelters that stand up to wind, rain, snow, sunshine, floods, drought, and more? How do our decisions impact the environment? Each type of home tells a different story about human ingenuity and the inventive and adaptive responses in finding a place to live.

COLORADO’S ULTIMATE HAUNTED HOUSE EXPERIENCE
Anderson Farms has put together all kinds of fall/Halloween activities for the entire family. There’s the Fall Festival, the Corn Maze, the Escape Rooms and the Shooting Gallery.

MORE PUMPKINS, MAZES, AND ANIMAL ANTICS
Rock Creek Farm – Broomfield, CO.  With a $6 general admission and free parking the Rock Farm has over 100+ acres of u-pick pumpkins, with field pumpkins priced at $7 apiece. Hay rides, hay maze and farm animals. Cornfield maze or hayrides priced at $7-$10 with haunt-free flashlight maze evenings on Friday and Saturday nights.  There are four mazes of varying difficulties with six miles of paths through the corn.  Past maze themes included Zombies, Shark, Treasure Chest, Pirate Ship, and Farm Animals.  The family fun play area includes a super slide, hay bale maze, covered picnic area and other activities. Maize in the City, Thornton, CO. There’s a large 20-acre maze here as well as a mini maze that takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. With a pumpkin field, petting zoo, corn kernel box, sand art, five-minute escape rooms, face painting, a barrel train, giant Jenga games, bounce houses, pony rides, food and drink and lots of fall décor for purchase. Cottonwood Farm – Lafayette, CO. Two acres of pumpkins, squash lend themselves to a corn maze, straw bale maze, farm animals to pet (if they let you!) and watch – from goats and chickens, to bunnies and cows. The Dairy Arts Center has lots of movies, performances and events this weekend that are thought provoking, humorous and/or entertaining. Sanctuary to comedy with Miriam Moreno, there are lots of ways to engage your mind and heart and funny bone over the next four days!

NOIR & THEN: ROSEMARY’S BABY
Join host Bob Rosinsky as he guides us through the history of noir with one of the classic fright-fests of all time: Rosemary’s Baby. This 1968 film written and directed by Roman Polanski  is about a young couple trying for a baby who move ihnto an opulent Gothic apartment building with peculiar residents. Starring Mia Farrow as Rosemary, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon, and in his feature film debut, Charles Grodin, in one of the first-ever psychological horror movies.

VIR DAS IN BOULDER
Vir Das is an Indian-American comedian, actor and musician. After beginning a career in standup comedy, Das moved to Hindi cinema starring in films like Badmaash Company, Delhi Belly, and Go Goa Gone in supporting roles. The Mumbai-based and Emmy-nominated comedian Vir Das brings what he hopes is “his funniest material yet” to Boulder on October 20 — the fifth show on his freshly debuted Wanted world tour.

As Das brings his comedy to Boulder, Wanted — his fifth Netflix special — is set to premiere in December. The show embodies a complex comedic narrative that begins at the end of the controversy sparked by his viral “I Come from Two Indias” video in late 2021, the result of which prompted widespread backlash from the Indian government.

Ludwig van Beethoven’s 8th Symphony, “My little Symphony in F”, is paired with a wonderful example of his close composer friend Anton Reicha. Reicha’s Symphony in G will have its premiere performance as a fully restored work after a very long 200-year wait, right here in Longmont! TEDDY SWIMS LIVE
Jaten Dimsdale, known by his stage name Teddy Swims, is an American singer-songwriter, known for blending genres and originally attracting fans through his cover performances on YouTube (which has amassed well over 400 million views). From TeddySwims.com:  Teddy Swims contains multitudes. It’s right there in his name— “Swims” is an acronym for “Someone Who Isn’t Me Sometimes,” and it’s a kind of shorthand for everything he stands for. There’s the fact that his voice sounds cozy and rich over any of the many genres he loves to mix up, from the pop and soul most have heard, on to gospel, hip-hop, and hard rock. But it’s even bigger than the Atlanta singer and songwriter’s rich baritone. To Teddy, the concept goes beyond his art, it means empathy, connection, using music to serve a greater good, and staying true to your people—in his case, a core group of about a dozen buds, bandmates, producers, and other various visionaries who knew him well before he became Teddy Swims.

Get your costumes ready and turn in your registrations for the Eerie Erie, one of the most enjoyable races in Colorado. On-site registration will be at the starting point – the Erie United Methodist Church parking lot from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. and Packet Pickup just a little beyond that till 9:15 a.m. The 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. The 10K will start at 9:40 a.m. The Eerie Erie is the primary fundraiser for the Erie Optimist Club, a non-profit organization whose sole mission is to benefit the children of the Erie community by funding youth-specific events, programs, and activities throughout the year.

DIÁ DE LOS MUERTOS CELEBRATION
The Stewart Auditorium comes alive with musicians, singers and dancers of all ages for an evening in celebration of Diá de los Muertos. Mariachi groups from local schools join up with seasoned veterans, while young performers join seasoned pros to sing and dance to traditional Mexican song.

Join us for this annual community celebration of a centuries old Mexican tradition which has quickly become part of the cultural fabric of Longmont.
