REWIND AND PLAY
In December 1969, legendary jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk ended his European concert tour with a performance at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Before the show, he was invited to appear on a French television program to perform and answer questions in an intimate setting. Using newly discovered footage from this recording, director Alain Gomis (FÉLICITÉ) reveals the disconnect between Monk and his interviewer, Henri Renaud, whose unwittingly trivializing approach conveys the casual racism and exploitation prevalent in the music industry at large. A fascinating behind-the-scenes documentary with extraordinary rarely-seen performances, REWIND & PLAY offers a unique opportunity to see Monk in a way that very few people did.

AKAASH SINGH
Akaash Singh is a nationally touring stand-up comedian, podcaster, and actor. His career took off with many television shows including MTV’s Guy Code and Wild’n Out, Netflix’s Brown Nation, and HBO’s The Leftovers.
After finding success in TV, he pivoted his focus toward growing the now hugely successful podcast Flagrant, co-created with fellow comedian and good friend, Andrew Schulz, along with touring and his stand up career.
Akaash self-produced and directed his first stand up special, Bring Back Apu in February, amassing over a million views in its first week alone. Just one month later, he released The Crowdwork Special, putting him in rarified air of comedians who produced two specials in back to back months. Aside from stand up, look for Akaash as the lead in the Netflix Animated Series Conquest as well as a Hulu series created by Ramy Youssef.

THE COLOR PURPLE

SHAKEDOWN STREET
For over 30 years, Shakedown Street has been performing the immense catalog of the Grateful Dead. MURDERERS: A KILLER COMEDY

SANSON AND ME
During his day job as a Spanish criminal interpreter in a small town in California, filmmaker Rodrigo Reyes (499) met a young man named Sansón, an undocumented Mexican immigrant who was sentenced to life in prison without parole. With no permission to interview him, Sansón and Reyes worked together over a decade, using hundreds of letters as inspiration for recreations of Sansón’s childhood—featuring members of Sansón’s own family. The result is a vibrant portrait of a friendship navigating immigration and the depths of the criminal justice system and pushing the boundaries of cinematic imagination to rescue a young migrant’s story from oblivion.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC
Based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers, this Broadway classic is a tale of courage and love. The winner of several Tony awards, including Best Musical, The Sound of Music, was the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Having proven too high-spirited for the religious life, Maria is sent to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Though she has an awkward start, she gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain’s immediate service in their navy. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre.
