FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH
Five Finger Death Punch, often shortened to Death Punch and abbreviated as 5FDP or FFDP, is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada.  Formed in 2005,” Five Finger Death Punch” is a reference to a martial arts technique from the film “Kill Bill Vol. 2” although, in the film, it is referred to as the “five-point-palm exploding heart technique” which doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. The band originally consisted of vocalist Ivan Moody, guitarist Zoltan Bathory, guitarist Caleb Andrew Bingham, bassist Matt Snell, and drummer Jeremy Spencer. They are one of the most successful groove metal bands and are known for their raw aesthetic voices.

PETER ROWAN WITH SAM GRISMAN PROJECT
Grammy-‐award winner and six-‐time Grammy nominee, Peter Rowan is a singer-‐songwriter with a career spanning over five decades. From his early years playing under the tutelage of Bluegrass veteran Bill Monroe, to his time in Old & In the Way and breakout as a solo musician and bandleader, Rowan has built a devoted, international fan base. The late ‘60s and early 70’s saw Rowan involved in a number of rock, folk and bluegrass projects, including David Grisman, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements and John Kahn, who formed a bluegrass band christened Old & In the Way. It was during this incarnation that Rowan penned the song “Panama Red,” a subsequent hit for the New Riders of the Purple Sage and a classic ever since. His solo career produced the celebrated album “Crucial Country: Live at Telluride” and he continues to thrill audiences around the world.

A Note From Sam Grisman – The music that my father David Grisman and his close friend, Jerry Garcia, made in the early 90s (in the house that I grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded, it also triggers my oldest and fondest musical memories. What I find most inspiring about this material is the way their camaraderie and their love and joy for the music, simply oozes out of each recording. It is also impressive how deeply they get beneath their favorite songs—whether they are originals, covers or traditional/old time tunes—and how expertly that material was curated. My goal in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a platform for my friends and me to showcase our genuine passion and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music.”

BLACK HOLES, THE OTHER SIDE OF INFINITY
Narrated by Liam Neeson, black holes are among the most mysterious and exotic objects in the Universe. These dark beasts are one of a few phenomenon out in the cosmos where the known laws of physics and general relativity break down. Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity explores the power and grace of these cosmic beasts.

CU’s own Dr. Andrew Hamilton was the science advisor for the program. “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity is for me the culmination of a dream many years in the making,” said Hamilton. “The show marries science and art in a new way that compromises neither. In particular, the show breaks new ground in visualizing accurately what Einstein’s equations predict about what really happens inside black holes. What actually happens looks nothing like, but is at least as fantastic as, any Hollywood rendering.”

THE UPSTART CROW: THE DOVER ROAD
The Dover Road is a comedy about marriage and divorce. A.A. Milne is, of course, best known for his stories and poems for children (e.g., Winnie-the-Pooh), but he also wrote humorous sketches, novels, and plays, and worked with Leslie Howard in the early days of the British film industry.

Premiered in 1922, The Dover Road is set in the home of eccentric Mr. Latimer, who waylays couples who are running away together (the Dover Road of the title leads to Paris and divorce) and gives them a taste of what their lives together might be like.
If you can picture a cross between Private Lives and Dear Brutus, you won’t be far off.

Thursday is “Name Your Price” night with seats available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations or ticket needed. Donations of any amount on Thursday 9/22 and 9/29 would be accepted in lieu of a ticket. Talkback on Saturday, 8/31 with the cast and crew after the performance.

MOVIES IN THE PARK: SUPER MARIO BROS.
Watch one of your favorite movies on a giant, outdoor screen! Super Mario Brothers is an animated feature film that features a plumber name Mario who travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother Luigi to try and save a captured princess. Live music, pre-show activities, and food concessions will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the movie starts at dusk.

SILENT MOVIE SERIES: THE KID (1921)
A 100-year tradition, the beloved Chautauqua Silent Film Series continues with The Kid. The film tells the poignant story of the Little Tramp (Chaplin) who discovers an abandoned baby and decides to raise him as his own. As the child, played by Jackie Coogan, grows up, the bond between the two deepens, creating a touching narrative filled with both humor and heartbreak.

Opening with the short film The Immigrant (1917) also starring Charlie Chaplin.

GRUPO FIRME
With a suitcase full of dreams, heartfelt lyrics and attractive Banda melodies, Grupo Firme has managed to make its way from the underground music scene to the Billboard charts. This regional Mexican band originated in Tijuana, Mexico in 2013. Initially a group of friends playing music for fun, the band gained popularity after posting videos of their performances on social media. 

Their first major success came with the song “El Roto,” which quickly became a hit on YouTube. Grupo Firme has since released multiple albums, including “En Vivo Desde Los Angeles” and “El Dominio,” both of which have topped the charts. They have sold out concerts across Mexico and the United States and have become known for their energetic live shows. Despite their success, the band remains grounded and dedicated to their fans, often taking time to meet and interact with them after shows. With their unique sound and high-energy performances, Grupo Firme has quickly become one of the most popular bands in the regional Mexican music scene.

SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL
Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

COMEDY IN THE BOE
Host and curator, and founder of the Boulder Comedy Festival, Zoe Rogers hosts another great showcase of comedy from Boulder and beyond. The headliner, Chris Bryant, is an LA comedian whose latest project Enemies of Dorothy explores “Things Only Gay Guys Can Do.” Also featuring Miriam Moreno, a Denver-raised comedian who was once described as a semi-depressed goth Latina — in a good way — her humor makes any dark topic seem laughable.

Providing even more funny stuff are Sarah Spear, Andres Becerril, and Kelsey Rosen.

ORACLE PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE
Oracle Performance Ensemble began in 2005 with the desire to perform art (dance and color guard) outside the constraints of gymnasiums, competitions, scores and judges. Since then, they have produced over 10 professional stage shows throughout the Denver Metro area, involving over 100 performers who would not have otherwise had the chance to express their artistry in movement. The name of the performance, FLOCK, refers to “flocking” to someone, a place, or an event, it is to gather and share an experience together. Usually because it captures our interest and gives us feelings of excitement and passion. The Oracle Performance Ensemble invites you to an inspiring evening of Color Guard and Dance this weekend.

STANDING FOR HUMANITY IN GAZA AND ISRAEL
A staged reading of the play, How to Remain a Humanist After a Massacre in 17 Steps
TRANSLATED BY SHIR FREIBACH. The haunting 20-minute play opens with two prologues set on the morning of October 7^th, 2023. It then sharply transforms into a ‘how to’ course in maintaining humanity in the aftermath of such horrific and sociopathic barbarism; poignantly capturing the moment when everything changed for the people of Israel, Palestine/Gaza, and the world.

It sets the stage for crucial conversations about the world’s most combustible conflict and enforces that essential reminder: ‘There are mothers on both sides.’ The play has been presented broadly in Europe and Israel, generating intense, widespread word-of-mouth and profoundly emotional responses; with presentations currently in development across the U.S.

It will include a facilitated Panel Discussion with local journalists, educators, and political and faith leaders, and Poetry by Palestinian Writers Taha Muhammad Ali, and Refaat Alareer, who was killed in an IDF airstrike on December 6th, days after writing his renowned poem If I Must Die. Proceeds go to Medical Aid for Palestine and Bring Them Home Now!

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS 2024
Born out of Northern California’s chaotic, late-1960s musical stew, The Doobie Brothers’ rugged, real and authentic approach to rock and roll made them biker bar stalwarts. But their self-titled debut album in ’71 went beyond just leather and motorcycles, revealing even more musical layers; sweet three-part harmonies and rootsy, introspective, acoustic flavors.

The Doobie Brothers’ legacy has been built upon not just hit records, but also an unrivaled commitment to musical integrity and a steadfast allegiance to their enthusiastic fan base. The bands ability to evolve in a constantly changing industry and connections to generations of listening audiences is a testament to their craft. The Doobie Brothers – John Hartman, Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston, hit the airwaves in 1972 with two singles from their second album — “Listen to the Music” and the gospel song “Jesus is Just Alright.” The hits kept coming in short order: “Long Train Runnin’,” “China Grove,” “Another Park, Another Sunday” and their first chart-topping entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with one of Simmons’ contribution, 1975’s “Black Water.”

Michael McDonald made his first appearance on a Doobie Brothers record in 1976, when his “Takin’ It To the Streets” and “It Keeps You Runnin’” introduced a more soulful approach that provided the template for “Minute By Minute,” a chart-topping album that spawned their second No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, “What a Fool Believes.”

They take none of it for granted. And their music has proven to be relatable for generations since they first came together, which is why they continue to make new music.

THE ROBERT CRAY BAND
Oh, you’re in for such a treat: blues icon, soul man, quintessential rock and roller…Robert Cray is all these things – and more. The Georgia- born, Washington-raised musician first picked up a guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV then, having witnessed Jimi Hendrix perform in Seattle, determined that his destiny would also follow a similar path. And so he has: across the past half century Robert Cray’s developed into one of American music’s most singular artists.

Robert Cray has shared stage and/or studio with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Albert Collins, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Memphis Horns and Hi Rhythm Section. Cray’s stinging guitar playing and soulful voice, his skills as a band leader and performer, mark him as keeper of the flame for American roots music, an artist who never fails to deliver.

WORLD WRESTLING COMES TO DENVER
WWE will host two events at Ball Arena in Denver over Labor Day weekend. The professional wrestling company will host NXT No Mercy featuring performers on the card: Ethan Page, Trick Williams, Roxanne Perez, Obi Femi, Shawn Spears and Wes Lee. A night later, WWE will bring the long-running, nationally televised series, Monday Night Raw, to Denver. WWE Superstars advertised to appear at “Raw” include Damian Priest, Jey Uso, Liv Morgan, Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio and Drew McIntyre.  “We look forward to returning NXT to the road and delivering an unforgettable night of action to the amazing fan bases of Denver…, and for those watching at home,” said WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels.
