Win a $100 Toward a Tree in the Erie Tree Lottery!
Trees are not only beautiful to look at, they’re healing – to the human soul and to the eco-system. Those are two reasons that from now through March 2, the Town of Erie is inviting residents to enter to win one of 400 $100 gift certificates toward the purchase of one lovely, living, luxurious tree.
The benefits of nature can be found on a remote mountaintop, but also in community parks, green spaces and your own front yard! You could probably think of one or two reasons why planting a tree near your house is a good idea; the Tree People came up with 22!
To name just a few, trees clean the air, provide oxygen, cool the air around them, and help prevent soil erosion. Seriously, there’s no downside to planting a tree – unless of course it takes OVER your yard and eclipses your house! But who’d plant a giant redwood in their yard?!
So, don’t waste another minute.
How to Win the Tree Lottery!
To enter just go online and register! There’s a limit of one entry per household and registrants must be Erie residents, at least 18 years of age.
The lottery drawing will take place on March 1 with the results published here by 3:00 p.m. on March 7.
Each certificate will be mailed to winning Erie residents by March 9, along with tree information packets. Trees must be on the Front Range Tree Recommendation List, EXCLUDING ash and dwarf varieties or trees with an expected mature height of less than 12 feet.
Which Tree Says “Me”?
Whether you win a certificate or are just motivated to find and plant your new favorite tree, the recommendation list can be a little overwhelming. The Arbor Day Foundation has a Tree Finder Wizard that can help you. Just enter your zip code and the type of tree you’re interested in – evergreen, fruit trees, shade trees or flowering trees – offers recommendations. If you’re more of a visual person, check out TreePictures.com and see which one appeals to your aesthetic sensibilities.
For design inspiration, here are a few free landscaping plans some of which contain complete layout renderings, guidelines and instructions for planting trees around patios, courtyards, entryways and more.
The Residential Cost Share Tree Incentive Program will award 400 lucky homeowners with these certificates and you could be one of them! For more information contact Sandy French at 303-926-2887.
