Best Place to Raise a Family!
Gorgeous mountain views. Small-town vibe. Big city access. Close proximity to ski resorts, AND, world-class research and education institutions. Your choice of home styles and amenities. Parks. Trails. Pools. Activities. You name it, Erie, Colorado has it. And for people who work in Denver or Boulder, making the move to this historical paradise 30 minutes away from either one, makes more than a little sense.
Erie receives 300 days of sunshine every year and even though summers are hot, there’s no humidity which makes them more comfortable – and the nights are cool! The sky is bluer and the stars are brighter than other parts of the U.S. due to the arid climate and elevation. And, some of the top weekend vacation destinations are located just a few hours away.
Best Place to Raise a Family
As if the 180-degree vistas of the Front Range weren’t enough to tempt you, Erie, Colorado has repeatedly been named one of the best places to live and raise a family. With a population of about 28,000, a median age of 37 and a median home price of $485,000, Erie has repeatedly been recognized as one of the safest Colorado cities in which to live.
Year-Round Activities and Events
Call us biased, but living in Colliers Hill also gives you an amazing menu of activities to choose from at the 6,500 sq. ft. amenity center, The Overlook. Throughout the year, YMCA staff host both family-oriented and adults-only events — like the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, complete with margaritas and Mexican cuisine!
The exquisitely-appointed facility has a great room with a stunning fireplace, a demonstration kitchen, two large screen TVs (more than one Super Bowl party has been hosted here!) and a destination deck that looks out on the Front Range – from Longs Peak to Mount Evans and beyond. The outdoor pool provides plenty of summer fun and the sports lawns can accommodate multiple games and activities.
And that’s just the beginning. The town of Erie hosts special events annually, from Breakfast with Santa and Boo! On Briggs Street, to Movies in the Park and a Fourth of July fireworks show. The Erie Chamber hosts Concerts in the Park, the annual Town Fair and Hot Air Balloon Festival, Brewfest and the Wine Festival. And if you live in Colliers Hill, you can enjoy the festivities and walk or bike home!
Trails, Hikes and Hills
Colliers Hill is the top choice for outdoor enthusiasts with more than 500 acres of natural open space and manicured neighborhood parks, 15 miles of recreational soft-surface trails and enviable proximity to mountain hikes. Serious hikers take on the thigh-burning Mt. Sanitas, to be rewarded with views of Boulder Valley at the summit. Every year, locals compete in the Eerie Erie 10K race which runs right through Colliers Hill for an entire day of fitness and fun.
The hills are also a lure for snowboarders, cross-country and downhill skiers and for anyone who loves taking a sled out for a slide. The closest resort is Eldora, just 38 miles from Erie with 680 skiable acres and 53 trails. And from the Thunder in the Rockies Bike Rally in Loveland and End of Year Summer Jam in Steamboat Springs, to the Estes Park Epic (a 25- or 50-mile bike ride over Labor Day), there are lots of to make weekend getaways an entertaining way to wrap up the week.
Shopping, Dining and Entertainment
Erie’s historic downtown is home to great dining choices, from the award-winning 24 Carrot Bistro (named Best of Boulder East County 2016 by the Boulder Weekly magazine) to the Miner’s Tavern, Rocky Mountain Ramen and Lazy Dog.
And don’t get us started about location. When you’re only 25 minutes from Boulder, the college town with its Pearl Street Mall art galleries, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. Boulder was named America’s Foodiest Town (Bon Appétit magazine) with Pearl Street recognized as one of the Top 10 Foodie Streets in the U.S. (Food + Wine). The University of Colorado Boulder campus is home to the Fiske Planetarium and Museum of Natural History.
And downtown Denver is only 30 minutes away, home to four major league sports teams and even more dining, shopping and entertainment options. Living IN Denver can be more costly, more crowded, more stressful and harder to navigate, but visiting whenever you want is the best of both worlds!
