From the East Coast to Colliers Hill!
Transplanted from Florida more than 18 months ago, homeowners Heather and Ray Mundy and their boys immediately embraced Colorado, leaving behind the humidity and palmetto bugs, for snow, high altitude and small-town living. Moving from just outside Cocoa Beach, Florida, to Colliers Hill has been a bit of an adjustment for the Mundy family – and one they have enthusiastically embraced!
“The first year was interesting, getting used to the snow,” says Heather. “That was the biggest adjustment for me — not so much for the kids.” She and her husband Ray have two boys, Jackson, 14 and Davis, almost 12 and moved from Cocoa Beach, Florida 18 months ago.
“My husband works for Medtronic in Boulder and when we came out the first time looking for homes with our realtor, we found a house in Longmont,” Heather says. The Mundys put down a deposit but Ray told the realtor to keep looking.
“Let’s see if there’s anything else out there,” he said.
Discovering Erie and Colliers Hill
When Ray flew out to Colorado again, this time by himself, he discovered the town of Erie and the master-planned community of Colliers Hill. “He fell in love with the neighborhood and our house – it was just an all-around better fit for our family,” says Heather. “He liked the schools, the area — we didn’t even know there was an Erie on that first trip!”
Ray used his smartphone to give Heather a live tour of the model homes and they quickly pulled out of their Longmont plans and decided on a Shea 3D™ 403 model.
“The house is beautiful. My husband and I did not pick out one single thing – it was already being built,” Heather says.
Heather says she’s “almost glad” she didn’t have to weather the stress of trying to design a new home interior long-distance. “Shea picked out everything and did a fabulous job. And I get so many compliments on the backsplash in the kitchen and our floors. They’re beautiful.”
Room for Everything
The one sea-faring vessel the Mundys didn’t leave behind in Florida was their boat. “It just fits in the garage, with a car, our bikes and all our skiing and boarding gear,” Heather says.
As the YMCA program instructor for the Little Miners’ kids’ programs at the Overlook, and the building’s supervisor, she helps plan events at the 6500-square foot amenity center for families, kids and adults only.
To say that the Mundys have taken a shine to sunny Colorado and to mountain biking, snowboarding and skiing is an understatement. “I also enjoy the social aspect of what I do, and I especially like that our neighbors have become our friends,” she says.
You’ll see Heather at the upcoming Party on the Hill and other events sponsored by the YMCA and the Colliers Hill builders throughout the year so be sure to introduce yourself! It’s one of her favorite things about the community.
