Erie Hot Air Balloon Festival This Weekend!
The Erie Chamber’s largest event of 2022 combines the Town Fair in Downtown Erie with the Hot Air Balloon Festival – now in its 25th year.
The hot air balloons will launch from the Future Community Park lot in Colliers Hill directly west of Erie High School! You’ll want to wake up early and grab your lawn chairs and blankets to watch two dozen hot air balloons take off!
The two-day launch event, Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, will begin at 5:30 a.m. with pilots filling their balloons, through take-off until about 8:00 a.m., WEATHER PERMITTING, at County Road 5 (CR5) and Colliers Parkway. More than 30 pilots will take to the air both days in an eye-popping and magical display — right in our backyards!
There will be some parking available at the launch site and more at Erie High School directly across the street. No parking will be allowed along CR5. Please note: pets are NOT allowed on the launch area – and neither is smoking.
The first few hundred visitors to attend the event will receive free folding chairs with armrests and cup holders from which to watch the event.
There will be food trucks at the launch site for festival-goers who want to purchase coffee and donuts or breakfast burritos. (Builders throughout the community will be hosting food trucks, as well!) Spectators are welcome to chat with the balloon pilots while the enormous balloons inflate, and snap forever photo-memories of this special up-close and in-person event.
More than 2500 visitors are expected on Saturday, so plan to arrive EARLY! And again, bring your blankets but please leave your dogs and cigarettes at home!
